The program continued with the Honorable Rick Boucher, U.S. Ninth District Congressman, who called Luna “one of Virginia’s most innovative and successful technology-based companies.” He highlighted Luna’s success in Montgomery County commenting, “We thank Kent Murphy and the professionals who work with him for what they have achieved for this company, its employees, and most importantly, for the economy of this region.”
Before the ribbon cutting, Kent Murphy, Luna’s Chairman and CEO, spoke about Luna’s history in Montgomery County and the company’s dedication to creating valuable products. “The products Luna develops are very important to all of us. Not only are we commercializing technology and creating shareholder value, but we are creating products that improve our lives and our nation, as well as we continue creating jobs and a great environment to work right here in the Commonwealth of Virginia.”

Luna moved into the State Street building of the Blacksburg Industrial Park in October 2006. The facility includes 32,000 square feet of office, laboratory and manufacturing space. It consolidated Luna’s two Commerce Street locations and the Luna Technologies Division formerly located in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, providing one facility for more efficient teamwork. The new facility includes specialized laboratories to perform sensor development, synthesize new molecular compounds, formulate novel coatings, and fabricate unique composite materials. Luna’s Blacksburg location holds 90 of the company’s 220 employees.
