Luna Technologies Awarded 2004 Product Innovation Award

BLACKSBURG, VA, May 4, 2004 - Luna Technologies has been selected as the recepient of the Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation. Each year this honor is given to a company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within their industry. Luna Technologies has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies through their Optical Vector Analyzer (OVA) platform.

To select a recipient for this award, the Frost and Sullivan analyst team tracks all new product launches, R&D spending, products in development, and new product features and modifications over the last year making comparisons and evaluations based on the degree of innovation and customer satisfaction. "Reducing time of production with its unprecedented speed and resolution, providing a high-price performance ratio, and protecting investment with scalability makes the OVA the product of choice," comments Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Ganapathi Subramanian. "Additionally, the OVA exhibited growth in a down market, which speaks volumes about its acceptance by the end users."

The OVA is a complete instrument for all-parameter optical analysis. It eliminates the need for multiple test instruments reducing the capital expenditures of the end users. "Competing instruments may offer an integrated box for the capture of the linear transfer function, but they require multiple sweeps to reveal the parameter measurements which increases the time and the costs of the test and is less accurate," states Subramanian. "The OVA offers a very high-price performance ratio to its end users and the instrument's price performance ratio is unmatched in the market."

The Luna OVA offers comprehensive component characterization of 40 nm in less than 6 seconds. The instrument can measure up to 70 meters of device length, which is the longest measurement reach of any interferometric measurement system. And, the OVA can auto-calibrate its internal optics, which enables the instrument to be used in manufacturing and production environments.

Continuing on its path of introducing innovative products, Luna Technologies introduced two new instruments to the OVA platform late 2003 -- the OVA Multi-Port (OVA-MP) and the OVA External Laser (EL). The OVA-EL solution minimizes capital outlay by providing cost-effective integration of existing equipment (compatible with the Agilent 81640(A/B)/81600) into an all-parameter, single-channel analyzer at a very competitive price. With the introduction of the OVA-MP, designers and engineers of optical components and subassemblies have the ability to perform volume all-parameter testing of single and multi-channel DWDMs. The initial offering has up to 128-port capability.
