Roanoke, VA - Cord Sterling has joined Luna Innovations Incorporated's Advisory Board, a group of leaders with backgrounds in government, academia and industry that help Luna in executing our commercialization business model. Sterling has years of experience with the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) and was recently named Vice President of Legislative Affairs for the Aerospace Industries Association, the premier trade association representing the nation's major aerospace and defense manufacturers.
Sterling served as Senator John Warner's (R-Va.) military legislative assistant, advising the senator on significant defense issues and working with federal agencies and local governments. He spent seven years as a professional staff member on the SASC, serving as the staff lead for the Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee, and has spent the last three years working directly for the chairman. Sterling has worked on a wide variety of issues, including military readiness budget requests; industrial infrastructure like shipyards, arsenals and ammunition plants; base closure and realignment; and weapon system procurement.
Sterling earned his bachelor's degree in economics and political science and his master's in national security studies from California State University, San Bernardino. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
