(ROANOKE, VA, July 16, 2008) – Charles Gause, Vice President of Corporate Development at Luna Innovations, was elected to serve as President of the Southern Piedmont Technology Council (SPTC). Charles has served on the SPTC for three years and serves on the council's Nanotechnology Committee. He has an extensive manufacturing and engineering science background and works to identify and develop technologies into market opportunities based upon Luna’s nanotechnologies. Charles was an instrumental part of the team that made the Luna nanoWorks division a reality. He established the operations, business development, and manufacturing processes for the Danville-based nanomaterials facility. Charles is active in nanotechnology policy initiatives such as the NanoHealth Enterprise Initiative and also serves on Virginia's Joint Commission on Technology and Science Nanotechnology Advisory Committee.

"I am honored to be asked to lead this important organization," said Gause. "We have a growing technology-based industry and the Council looks forward to helping establish Southern Virginia as a premier technology region within the Commonwealth."

The SPTC is an advocate for technology-driven initiatives and investments in the region. It has focused on serving the technology-related needs of our communities, raising awareness of the benefits of technology utilization, and endorsing the region’s potential and its technology assets. As the SPTC continues to serve the region, it hopes to continue to attract more members and expand its outreach and service programs to the area.
