Luna Innovations Incorporated has moved its Blacksburg offices to 3157 State Street. The new building effectively consolidates Luna’s two Commerce Street locations and the Luna Technologies Division formerly located in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center facilities on Kraft Drive providing one facility for more efficient teamwork. The 32,000 square foot space at State Street is home to approximately 90 employees.
“This new facility brings the Blacksburg research and product teams together in to one, highly productive space,” said Scott Meller, President of Luna’s Contract Research Division. “Our new facility includes specialized laboratories to perform sensor development and to synthesize new molecular compounds. We can formulate novel coatings and fabricate unique composite materials. We also have labs to perform a wide range of biologically based research and development, including a dedicated biosafety level 2 'plus' lab and a tissue culture lab to work with pathogenic bacteria allowing our scientist to experiment and test findings easily in a secure facility. Having the research and product teams under one roof allows us to more effectively leverage each other’s talents and skills to the benefit of our customers.”
Luna’s research groups in Blacksburg specialize in optics, advanced materials and life sciences with a focus on commercialization. The Luna Technologies Division is an award-winning supplier of test instrumentation for optical component developers and producers worldwide.
