Kent A. Murphy
President and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Murphy is the Company Founder and has led Luna as President, Chief Executive Officer, Treasurer and Chairman of the Board since 1992. Dr. Murphy is a founding member of the Virginia Research and Technology Advisory Commission (VRTAC) appointed by the Governor. He is also a member of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) Board of Directors, the Greater Washington Board of Trade Virtual Incubator Action Committee, the National Research Council and the National Academies' SBIR Steering Committee and the Potomac Task Force. Dr. Murphy is the Founder and the President of The Accelerating Innovation Foundation, a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote and facilitate development of a technology innovation cluster in the mid-Atlantic region (www.acceleratinginnovation.org).
In 2001, Dr. Murphy was named Small Business Innovation Research Entrepreneur of the Year and in 2004 he was recognized by the Governor and Science Museum of Virginia as Virginia's Outstanding Industrialist of the Year. He is a former tenured professor in Virginia Tech's Bradley Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and has more than 200 publications, 40 journal papers and 35 patents in the areas of telecommunications, sensing for oil and gas and aerospace, diagnostics for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Dr. Murphy began work in fiber optics with ITT in 1978, and received multiple U.S. and international patents for fiber optic couplers. He received his master's and doctoral degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. His bachelor's degree is in Electrical Engineering and Mechanics is also from Virginia Tech. Dr. Murphy is not related to Edward G. Murphy, M.D., a member of Luna's Board of Directors.

Dale Messick
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Messick has served as our Chief Financial Officer since August 2006. He is a strong financial executive with more than 20 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting, pre-initial public offering and IPO activities, and management of a multi-national company with revenue in excess of $900 million. Other areas of expertise include; international operations, cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and significant strategic and tactical planning. He began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked for seven years in rapidly advancing positions of leadership within the firm. In 1993 he joined Worldspan as an Assistant Controller before being named Chief Financial Officer. While there, he prepared Worldspan twice for a public offering, the first resulting in a leveraged buy out and the second in a new public debt offering. Mr. Messick received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the College of William and Mary and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Scott A. Graeff
Chief Commercialization Officer and Treasurer
Mr. Graeff has served as our Chief Commercialization Officer since August 2006. He is responsible for defining the company's commercialization and strategic initiatives, presiding over the Company's Investment Committee and leading all business development activities. Prior to this role, Mr. Graeff served as our Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Corporate Development, and was a member of Luna's Board of Directors from August 2005 until March 2006. He has financial management, strategic planning and capital markets experience in both privately and publicly held companies. During his career, Mr. Graeff has been the Managing Director of a venture capital fund, the CFO of a software technology company that was sold to a Fortune 500 Company, and has held senior-level positions at various investment banking firms. In these various roles, Mr. Graeff has completed a public offering and has been involved with mergers and acquisitions with a notional value of more than $8 billion. He is experienced in a broad range of capital market transactions, strategic planning, and financial management. Mr. Graeff holds a bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia.

Scott A. Meller
President, Technology Development Division
Mr. Meller has served as President of Luna's Technology Development Division (formerly named the Contract Research Division) since September 2005. He has a proven track record in identifying and bringing leading technologies to market. From May 2004 to September 2005, Meller served as Luna's Chief Operating Officer. From October 2002 to May 2004, Mr. Meller was Luna's Vice President of Research and Development and previously served at Luna Technologies, Inc., now a division of Luna Innovations, as Director of Engineering. He joined Luna Innovations in 1996 as a Research Scientist and was a major contributor to early research that led to spin-offs and new products. Mr. Meller holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University, a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, and is a licensed Professional Engineer. He also holds three patents in optical fiber sensors and devices.

Brian Soller
President, Products Division
Dr. Soller, a Luna employee since 2001, is the President of Luna Innovations’ Products Division. In this capacity he oversees product engineering, development, marketing and manufacturing operations. Previously, Dr. Soller served as Vice President and General Manager of the Luna Technologies division where his strategy and execution helped establish Luna Technologies as an internationally recognized leader in fiber optic test solutions. He received his doctorate in Optical Science as a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate fellow in optical science at the University of Rochester in New York and earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse where he studied as a Goldwater Scholar. Dr. Soller has authored numerous publications and has several patents pending.

Robert Lenk
President, Luna nanoWorks Division
Dr. Lenk has served as President of Luna's nanoWorks Division since August 2005. During his career, he has founded three companies, led two IPO's and successfully brought drugs to market. Since December 2003, Dr. Lenk has served as President of Oncovector Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. He has also served as a member of Oncovector's Board of Directors since May 2003. From July 1999 to September 2003, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Therapeutics 2000, an inhalation pharmaceutical research company. Dr. Lenk holds a doctorate in Cell Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
